By Rosalind Russell – Northern Credit Union and Copperfin Credit Union, two financial institutions with branches throughout the North, are continuing their ongoing merger discussions.
Northern board chair Tim Foster says the two are putting together a business case for regulatory approval, which in turn will lead to a member vote to finalize the merger.
His counterpart with Copperfin, Robert Jancovic, says the Joint Partnership Committee is to establish a unified Board of Directors for the newly formed organization, intended to meaningfully represent the combined entities.
There is no set deadline but both parties hope to have the legal work completed by the middle of the year.
Copperfin branches are located mostly in north-western Ontario while the Northern branches serve the north-east including Espanola.
