CSC Nouvelon schools recognized for environmental leadership

By Rosalind Russell – Six Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon schools including one in Blind River recently received the EcoSchools Canada certification for the 2022-2023 school year.

Education director Paul Henry says with the designation, the EcoSchools Canada Program recognizes the work of schools in promoting environmental learning and climate action.

He says École Saint-Joseph in Blind River earned a silver level, with the other winners in Sudbury and Val Caron.

Henry adds in these schools, student-run environment clubs carried out projects that had an ecological impact in various areas such as greening, reducing energy consumption, reducing waste, and preserving the environment.

He says by strengthening students’ environmental leadership, their schools are providing them with the tools to become eco-responsible citizens equipped to reduce their ecological footprint.
