Doctor shortages continues to plague North Shore Health Network

By Rosalind Russell – The North Shore Health Network continues to have difficulties in keeping emergency services open along the corridor due to doctor shortages.

CEO Tim Vine says the Richards Landing-Matthews’s site will be closed today and reopens tomorrow at 8 am and the Thessalon site will be closed Friday and reopen on Saturday, again at 8 am.

He says the network continues to investigate all possible options to provide safe access to care and to avoid closures, adding should a physician be secured they will reopen and inform the community as soon as possible.

Vine adds anyone requiring immediate medical attention should call 9-1-1 or attend another emergency site in Blind River or elsewhere.

This summer, the network has had several closures but in most instances have been successful in having physicians come in to maintain the departments.
