Elliot Lake council updated on Rogers Arena – date set for reopening facility

By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake council was provided with a comprehensive update on Monday by Chris Perry, of Perry & Perry Architects, the company that is the lead in the overall retrofit of Roger’s Arena.

Perry says he has been hosting weekly meetings with contractors who are working on the building.

He says due to delays in the micropiles and timber plate installations, the domino effect is coming into play and adding to the timeline.

Perry also pointed out the bleachers and the Zamboni room have to be replaced since they do not meet code.

To that end, he says the timeline is to have ice installed in August with the arena ready for use September first of next year.

He also recommended some enhancements, which are not part of the approved budget of $11.3 million, for an additional $1.3 million, but that decision will have to be part of the 2026 budget.

Mayor Andrew Wannan says they are planning to have all the parties involved including the contractors at the December 22nd council meeting for an in-depth discussion on the project.
