Survey for 2026 budget shows Rogers Arena a high priority

By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake council hired a company for a survey to review the priorities of taxpayers as they enter the 2026 budget talks.

The company, Mainstreet Research, conducted the survey earlier in the fall with the results released to the ad hoc budget committee earlier this month.

According to the survey, the biggest issue is the ongoing retrofitting of the Rogers Arena.

When it comes to the rehabilitation of the Rogers Arena, there is a majority, 55%, and among those with an opinion, 71% believe it is a very high priority.

When asked about how to address budget needs, 42% of residents preferred a mix of higher taxes and user fees.

This sentiment was highest among those under age 50 at 73% and lowest among those 50-64 at 23%.

City council will use the results of the survey to address the 2026 budget, which is available Visit www.elliotlake.ca
