Elliot Lake hospital launches new model for orphaned in house patients

By Rosalind Russell – St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake is launching a new Hospitalist Program aimed at improving patient care and the overall hospital experience.

Hospital CEO Kelli-Ann Lemieux says under the new model, two dedicated physicians will provide 24/7 care for all ICU, medical surgical, and Alternate Level of Care inpatients – regardless of whether the patient has a family doctor or not.

She says the approach is designed to enhance continuity of care, improve access to services and strengthen collaboration among the hospital’s interdisciplinary team.

For patients without a family physician, hospitalists can serve as the primary provider during their stay.
