By Rosalind Russell – The Kraft Hockeyville push to have Elliot Lake win the grand prize of $250,000 for repairs to its arena is on.
Elliot Lake has been selected as one of the four finalists for the annual Kraft Hockeyville prize, and if the community wins, that money would go towards repairs to the Centennial Arena according to City EDO, Steve Antunes.
He says the Centennial Arena was built in 1967, so it now has structural problems that must be addressed especially to the wooden roof trusses for the roof.
Antunes says with the shutdown, communities including Blind River, Massey and Espanola have provided ice time for various organizations from minor to Junior A hockey, figure skating and more since it was closed in September.
He says the online 32-hour vote-a-thon will take place on March 29th and 30th and encourages all Canadians to vote for their community.
He adds the winners will also host an NFL hockey game as a bonus for the win.
Voting will take place 9 am Friday until 5 pm Saturday. You can vote as many times as you like. Organize a voting party or gathering, the more votes, the better the chances for Elliot Lake to win! Visit krafthockeyville.ca.voting .
