
By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake’s Fourth Annual Homelessness Challenge kicks off today.
Participants will live in conditions like the homeless for four days and three nights while raising funds for the Elliot Lake Women’s Group shelters: Larry’s Place and Maplegate House.
The Homeless Challenge began in 2022 when the Group invited community members to take part in a five-day awareness initiative highlighting the realities of homelessness in our region.
Since its launch, the Homeless Challenge has raised over $25,000 in support of Larry’s Place Fresh Start for Men, helping those facing homelessness or unstable housing gain access to safe, affordable housing.
Officials say as of December 1, due to ongoing funding challenges, Larry’s Place will transition to an overnight-only service (8 PM – 8 AM).
Donations can be made online, and the public can visit the site, 1 College Place, to talk to staff or donate.
