By Rosalind Russell – Elliot Lake’s Little Warrior, seven-year-old Elijah Caden Hennessey, has passed away.
Elijah was receiving care and waiting for surgery in the Cardiac Critical Care unit at SickKids Hospital in Toronto when he passed away last Thursday afternoon following a cardiac arrest.
His mother, Jessie, says they chose to name him Elijah Caden, which means fighter, and so he became known widely as the Little Warrior.
From the time of his birth, he had to overcome and go through several medical procedures to help his heart and lungs function as close to normal as possible.
Heterotaxy syndrome is a rare congenital condition that disrupts the typical arrangement of internal organs, which led to many trips to hospitals and Sicks Kids in Toronto.
Through the years, the wider community of Elliot Lake, Espanola and the North Shore Corridor stepped up to provide monetary and moral supports.
Jessie had been hoping he would be strong enough to travel to Boston for a life-changing surgery and a Go Fund Me was set up last month to help alleviate the costs, but it is not to be.
His Celebration of Life will be this Saturday August 9th from 11am to 1 pm at the Collins Hall.
