Espanola artist completes Child and Family Services ‘Grandfather Teachings’ panels

By Rosalind Russell – Indigenous artist Mike ‘Cy’ Cywink of Espanola has completed another original set of large panels.

Cywink says he was asked by the Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services to complete a set of seven panels at their Sudbury office, which incorporates the Seven Grandfather Teachers.

He says the teachings centre around wisdom, love, respect, bravery, honesty, humility, and truth with each panel incorporating one specific virtue each.

Cywink adds the collection entitled “The Teachings” was completed by participating youth and staff, and his apprentice Gerry Ranger.
