Espanola Food Bank accessible to all students

By Rosalind Russell – The Helping Hand Food Bank in Espanola is accessible to all students who attend Espanola High School.

Officials say no screening is required, just a proper student card.

The high school, through its Backpack Program, and its partnership with the food bank, will have bags of food available for students intended to provide three meals a day for one person on the weekend.

There are also lunch and supper bags for one day for one person available as well.

Students can go to the food bank on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

And starting today, Espanola High will partner with RDSB Indigenous Education and the Food Bank to provide a hot meal every single Friday at lunch time.

Aside from the Food Bank services, EHS provides many other supports for students. B128/Credit Recovery, Nakita’s room, Aimee’s room, and Josie’s room all have grab & go snacks. Outside of Mr. Stewart’s room A122 there is a cart filled with hygiene and personal care products. There is also a Thrift Shop in the cafeteria with clothing, outdoor wear, and footwear available.
