Espanola Nursing Home Enhancement Project – Official Launch Gets a Huge Kick Start

Espanola ON, The Espanola Regional Hospital Foundation will officially be kicking off the Espanola Nursing Home Enhancement Project (ENHEP) this Thursday August 17, 2023.

The project will bring wonderful enhancements to our Long-Term Care residents. These changes will support upgrades to improve air quality and ventilation, to create a negative pressure isolation room that meets infectious disease standards, and to support upgrades to resident care and service areas to maintain infection prevention control and safe distancing. Other improvements and enhancement are a renovated shower room, much needed storage and renewed activity room and courtyard. The project does come with funding, however, there is a shortfall.

The Foundation immediately agreed to help raise $450,000 to offset the cost of some of the renovations.

“The Hospital and Foundation are elated to announce the single largest private donation the Foundation has ever received!” Terri Noble, Foundation/Public Relations Coordinator. “Longtime Espanola resident Daphne Allen has given a gift of $150,000 to the project and we are so very grateful for her generousity.”

The Allen Family relocated to Espanola 18 years ago and have been at the forefront of many community developments, like the revamping of the tennis/pickleball courts & the donation of shade tables at Heritage Park among many other projects. Although her husband, Don Allen has passed on, Daphne keeps his and their son Davids memories alive with her bigheartedness.

“Having a Long-Term Care Home in our community is foundational to providing care to those who can no longer live on their own.  Our “We’re Close to Home” campaign is raising funds to ensure our residents live in an environment that fosters independence, quality of life and safety.  The funds raised will allow our residents to further enjoy the comforts of home and participate in activities such as baking, gardening and social gatherings in modernized and updated spaces.  It is with great appreciation that we acknowledge the commitment of this community in improving the lives of our residents, and we are extremely grateful to the Allen family for their generous donation to kick off our fundraising campaign.” Jane Battistelli, CEO / LTC Administrator

Mrs. Allen recently relocated to London, ON to be closer to family, but her love of Espanola and our hospital remains. “I have always been so impressed with Espanola’s healthcare hub and the services offered. Where else can you live in senior apartments, assisted living and a nursing home attached to a hospital all under one roof?” “I just wanted to add a little icing to the cake” Daphne Allen, longtime supporter of ERHHC. The Espanola Nursing Home residents and their families will be celebrating the launch of this campaign with a BBQ and music in the Therapeutic Garden.
