By Rosalind Russell – The final transit study in Elliot Lake has been released and the council will now review the document and decide whether to move on the recommendations in it.
On Wednesday evening, the city’s Public Services committee met to discuss the study, which was contracted out in July 2023, and receive some output from stakeholders.
Contractor EXP. provided an overview of the current conditions of Elliot Lake’s transit system and also numerous recommendations to improve the accessibility and economic efficiency of the service.
Some of those recommendations include bus stop design, the length and efficiency of bus routes, and easy access to accommodate those with special needs, such as canes and walkers.
A motion was also passed that the council establish a working group to move forward on the recommendations.
Council will receive the study at Monday night’s regular meeting where they will discuss the study further and decide how they will move forward.
