By Rosalind Russell – The Elliot Lake Fire Department is investigating a fire at a multi-dwelling residence in Elliot Lake.
Fire chief John Thomas says the fire at 77 Tokyo Crescent was called in shortly after ten am yesterday morning and the fire crew had it out within the hour, but there was heavy fire damage in the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the unit.
He says four family pets were rescued with two transported to the veterinarian clinic.
Thomas says the cause of the fire in unknown, so the investigation continues.
He adds that due to working smoke alarms in the unit, early detection was possible with the damage confined to the one unit.
