Fireworks cancelled in Espanola and Massey

By Rosalind Russell – There will be no fireworks this Canada Day weekend allowed in any municipality across Manitoulin Island or the North Shore corridor.

Espanola and Sables-Spanish Rivers Township fire departments have both made the decision to postpone the spectacle due to the high fire danger.

The departments state even with the recent rain, the fire danger remains high and the Northern Ontario open fire ban still remains in place leading them to make the decision.

The fireworks will be held at a safer time later in the year.

Under the open fire ban, no fires, even sparklers or fire crackers, are not allowed.
