Flooding warnings issued across all three districts – causes road closures on Manitoulin Island and the North Shore Corridor

By Rosalind Russell – The Ministry of Natural Resources in the Algoma, Manitoulin and Sudbury districts has put out flood warnings as the snow melt and heavy rain over the last 48 hours has caused road closures including on Manitoulin Island and along the North Shore.

The Ministry says the flood warning will be in place until noon today and will depend on weather conditions and rising water levels along major waterways.

The Municipality of Central Manitoulin declared a State of Emergency yesterday morning due to the flooding and are asking motorists to avoid travel, if possible, into today.

Hwy 551 is also reduced to one lane in the Providence Bay area and Mindemoya is underwater at many locations.

The Old Webbwood Road in Espanola is closed due to a washout and the Town of Espanola also closed Bass Lake Road for a few hours yesterday to repair a culvert where flooding had occurred.

Motorists are being asked to avoid all flooded roads, if possible, use extreme caution, if necessary, travel is required and to follow all posted road closures and detours.
