Forest Fire report for July 30, 2023

By Rosalind Russell – There are currently 33 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region.

The province’s daily report states of these fires, 26 are being observed, two are not under control, and five are under control.

There has been one new confirmed fire on Saturday near Wawa, which is under control, and two new fires in the local area, one north of Whiskey Lake, the second north of Nairn Centre.

Sudbury 26 located three kilometres south of Highway 637 between the Killarney and French River provincial parks is the largest fire and is out of control.

The fire hazard varies from moderate to high across the Northeast region, except for areas south and southeast of Parry Sound and North Bay where the fire hazard is low.

Closer to home, several fire bans remain in place throughout our listening area including several municipalities on Manitoulin Island.

There are also restrictions in place, such as only burning between 7 pm and 7 am in the North Shore corridor.
