Greater Sudbury Mayor declares State of Emergency

By Rosalind Russell – The mayor of Greater Sudbury has declared a State of Emergency in the city.
Paul Lefebvre says based on the  current conditions and updated water level projections from Conservation Sudbury, to ensure they are fully prepared to respond as the situation continues to evolve over the coming weeks, he has declared a state of emergency.
He says first responders, water/wastewater crews, and contractors are working around the clock to protect residents, maintain critical infrastructure, and support those in affected areas.
Meanwhile, Enbridge Gas has removed its emergency position in Espanola.
The company says River flows have since receded and are now operating below threshold. Conditions are stable, and there are no longer any concerns with the affected pipeline.
The Emergency Operations Centre has been stood down.
Rivers continue to flow at high levels throughout the three districts of Manitoulin, Sudbury and Algoma and the public is cautioned to be aware of the danger of fast moving water that can rise and fall quickly.
Flood warnings remain in place in all three districts.
