Huron Shores monitors Chevis Road as Dean Lake Bridge remains closed

By Rosalind Russell – Highways 554 to 546 from Iron Bridge to Elliot Lake and Highway 553 in the Massey were closed due to flooding on Saturday.
They remain closed as of this morning.

Rising waters and an official flooding advisory from the government has led a local municipality to keep a close eye on one of its bridge structures.
The Municipality of Huron Shores is monitoring Chevis Road, which is currently the only access route into the Dean Lake community.
The township is accessing the situation because of the temporary closing of the Dean Lake Bridge, which has raised some concerns due to erosion.
With rising river levels and rain, conditions can change quickly, so the municipality has notified residents to be prepared in case Chevis Road becomes impassable, including sufficient supplies of food, water, medications and fuel.
Public Works staff are patrolling the area regularly, and municipal staff is coordinating with Emergency Management Ontario preparing plans in case conditions worsen.
