By Rosalind Russell – On Saturday, September 7th, cyclists from across Manitoulin Island and beyond will come together for the Tour de Meldrum – An annual fundraising ride in support of the Manitoulin Health Centre. This community-driven event raises vital funds to purchase much-needed medical equipment for our hospitals.
Now in its 24th year, the Tour de Meldrum sees an average of 16 riders each year.
Fundraising efforts have amounted to over $220,000 in support of hospital equipment needs for the Manitoulin health care program.
Links to sign up or donate are on our websites.
Each rider fundraises, and local businesses have been very generous over the many years. The event has become a wonderful venue to enjoy cycling, camaraderie, and taking in the beauty of the Island — or as many participants like to say, “Ride somewhere meaningful.”
Hospitals in Ontario are not funded for the purchase of new equipment, and Manitoulin Health Centre receives no Ministry funding for capital expenses.
The Tour de Meldrum helps bridge this gap, ensuring that healthcare teams have the tools they need to deliver safe, high-quality care to the people of Manitoulin Island. We are proud to share that President & CEO, Paula Fields, and Vice President Clinical Services & Chief Nursing Officer, Paula Ferguson, will both be participating in the ride this year.
