By Rosalind Russell – Algoma District School Board CEO Lucia Reece and Vice Chair Greg Bowman were on hand to receive a large donation from the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 2251 in support of the board’s Student Nutrition Program.
Reece says Mike Da Prat, President of USW Local 2251, and Assistant Debbie Logan donated
$17,500 to support their schools throughout the Algoma District.
She adds to date, the union has donated $152,000, including this year’s donation, which goes directly to their nutrition and breakfast programs at both elementary and the high school level.
She points out that studies have shown that children whose nutritional needs are met have fewer attendance and discipline problems, and their ability to learn is enhanced.
