Nickel Belt MPP France Gelinas says the Ontario government’s own Ministry of Health shows a huge shortage of PSWS.
Gelinas rose in the House yesterday stating the document they received from the ministry shows Ontario is short 38,000 PSWs right now, and every year, more will be added.
She says the reasons for the shortage is the working conditions with a quarter of them leaving their profession.
Gelinas says PSWS love the work they do, but they need their job to be considered permanent, full-time work with appropriate benefits.
She says the same was done for nurses back in the 1970s.
Gelinas then presented petitions to the government asking for consideration of the job classification.
