Man shot by OPP in Kirkland Lake

By Rosalind Russell – Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit says it was a 66-year-old man who died in Kirkland Lake yesterday morning, after being shot by an OPP officer.

Police were called to the scene of a man reportedly carrying an edged weapon at about 7:30 a.m.

They found him in the parking lot of École Catholique Jean-Vanier… an adult high school.

When the man wouldn’t drop the weapon… a taser was used… and one officer fired his gun. The man died in hospital.

An autopsy is set for today in Sudbury.

The SIU takes over the investigation when a police officer is involved in an incident that results in harm to someone else.
