Manitoulin Health Centre launches campaign for ultrasound machines

By Rosalind Russell – The Manitoulin Health Centre has launched its new campaign for two ultrasound machines.

Hospital CEO, President Paula Fields, says ultrasound imaging is a vital diagnostic tool used in many areas of care including emergency medicine, obstetrics and internal medicine.

She says by equipping both hospital sites in Little Current and Mindemoya they can ensure patients receive care without having to travel.

She adds there is no funding for hospital equipment purchases, so the campaign is being held relying on individual and business donations, and sponsorship support from local charities.

Fields says the existing ultrasound equipment continues to age, so reliability and availability become increasing concerns.

The Manitoulin Health Centre is a two-site rural hospital serving more than 13,000 permanent residents, along with a significant seasonal population.

Funds raised through the Vital Visions – Higher Resolution Leads to Clearer Solutions campaign will directly support the purchase of two new ultrasound machines.
