By Rosalind Russell – Three local area museums, one on North Shore, two on Manitoulin Island, are opening exhibits for the summer season for tourists and residents alike.
The Gore Bay Museum is opening its Christie’s Art ‘Heartfelt Heritage – Manitoulin Roots’ display next week focusing on an exhibition of renowned artist, Christie (Best) Pearson Anderson.
The exhibit opens on May 23rd at 10 am.
The Old Mill Heritage Centre in Kagawong is featuring everything hockey with memorabilia, stories, photos and more featuring not only local sports history, but also some special surprises from other leagues including the National Hockey League.
That exhibit also opens on May 23rd at 10 am.
And the Massey Area Museum opened in its exhibit Reconnecting Awakening: Heirlooms of History Fort LaCloche mounted by researcher Allen Toulouse and featuring artifacts that date back more than 2,000 years focusing on Anishinabek history.
The fort played a key role in early Canadian history as well especially in connection with the Hudson Bay Company and Northwest Company, the fur trade and early lumbering history.
The exhibits run throughout the summer.
