Mount Dufour lease agreement put into place

By Rosalind Russell – The City of Elliot Lake has been working with the Mount Dufour Ski Club organization for quite a while, but without the normal paperwork.

Director of Finance and Treasurer, Amy Sonnenburg informed council at a special meeting last week that the last land lease agreement with Mount Dufour expired in 1994, so she recommended council approve the Memorandum of Understanding and five-year-lease agreement right away.

She says it was important to have the paperwork taken care of to ensure the preparations for the ski season are not interrupted.

Sonnenburg explained that lease agreements are historically put in place, but with the ski hill, the city had simply provided extensions over time until 1994, but with no renewal at that time, the operations have continued without a land lease agreement.

Council unanimously approved both the memorandum and lease agreement.
