Multiple road closures due to washouts in Espanola area

By Rosalind Russell – The five inches of rain that fell on Wednesday night led to several washouts and closures in the Espanola area.
Manitoulin OPP says Highway 6 between Birch Lane and Hopkins Hill Road was partially re-opened around noon yesterday.

Old Webbwood Road and Bass Lake Road has re-opened.
Additional updates to the several other roads closed in the area are as follows:
Minto Street between David Street and Old Nairn Road in Nairn Centre is expected to remain closed for approximately 2 weeks.
Fox Lake Road and Panache Lake Road remain closed due to washout damage.
The OPP is reminding all motorists that road closures are in place for your safety. Driving on a closed road is not only dangerous, especially in areas affected by washouts, but it is also illegal. Motorist who are found driving on a closed road will face a fine of $110 and three demerit points upon conviction.
We want to thank the public for their continued patience and cooperation as crews work diligently to restore safe travel routes. For updates on road conditions and closures, visit the Ontario Ministry of Transportation website at ontario.ca/511 or call 511.
