New charter for Kiwanis Club celebrated in Elliot Lake

By Rosalind Russell – The Lieutenant Governor of the local Kiwanis region was on hand for the official welcoming of a new charter for the Kiwanis in Elliot Lake.

Terry Atchinson says local Kiwanis members gathered together recently to mark their new charter as a club in Elliot Lake.

He points out the Kiwanis were a big part of Elliot Lake during the boom years of the mining operations, but the original club closed down in the 90s following the closure of the mines.

The formation of the club was lauded by Lieutenant Governor Susan St. Jules from Sault Ste. Marie.

In her statement, St. Jules announced the official chartering of the club marks a new chapter of service and community leadership in the region reflecting the dedication and vision of individuals who believe deeply in strengthening their community.

She also acknowledged their commitment to focus on improving the lives of children through hands-on service, fund raising initiatives and partnerships with local organizations.

Atchinson adds the club is planning some special projects and any community members interested in learning more or joining the club, can contact their leadership team.
