New Facility will double the capacity of the local animal shelter

By Rosalind Russell – The Society for Animals in Distress in Elliot Lake has expanded its operations with the acquisition of a larger facility at 35 Perini Road, marking a major milestone in the community’s ongoing commitment to animal care.

Society president, Ellen Irvine, says the new space will significantly increase the organization’s capacity, enabling the shelter to welcome and support more dogs and cats in need of healing and safety.

She says for years, The Society for Animals in Distress (Northshore) has dedicated itself to rescuing, accepting surrendered pets, and placing animals with families.

This year, they were able to successfully rehome up to 60 animals.

Irvine adds that with the added room and resources in the upgraded facility, the organization hopes to more than double that impact and ensure fewer animals are turned away due to lack of space.

She adds that donations are also appreciated to maintain the facility and the services it offers.

When the new facility opens the door to greater possibilities, it also brings increased responsibility, says Irvine.

The organization is calling on the community for support through personal and corporate donations, and volunteer time to lend a helping hand in renovation.

Contact the office to organize the necessary supplies that will be needed.

These contributions will help create a nurturing, fully equipped environment for incoming animals — many of whom arrive after

experiencing abandonment, neglect, or crisis.
