By Rosalind Russell – The newest hiking trail opened in Gore Bay earlier this month.
Mayor Ron Lane says he attended the official opening, which is an extension to the Lodge Trail.
He adds in partnership with the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy, which is the owner of the new trail, it is now possible to hike from the Lodge Trail trailhead on East St. to Gorrel Point which is located on the shoreline below the Hindman Park Lookout, about seven kilometres round trip.
Lane adds located on an ancient shoreline laying below the edge of the escarpment but above the existing shoreline, both trails offer scenic views plus old growth forest with plenty of diversity for hikers, photographers and families to enjoy.
