New Vatican appointment for local bishop

By Rosalind Russell – The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has added a new responsibility for Bishop Thomas Dowd of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie.

Cardinal Kurt Koch, a senior Vatican official, has appointed Bishop Dowd as the Co-Moderator of the Joint Working Group between the Roman Catholic Church and the World Council of Churches for a period of seven years until 2030.

He adds Bishop Dowd takes on the new responsibility while remaining the Bishop of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie adding the council works to promote unity among various Christian churches.

 This new appointment, which begins immediately, will see Bishop Dowd working in collaboration with representatives of Christian churches throughout the world.
