By Rosalind Russell – Firefighting crews from across the region met in Thessalon this past weekend to compete in different categories with Espanola’s crew bringing home several awards.
Jamie Ramsay was presented with the NSFFC Mentorship Award for his dedication, leadership and commitment to training and mentoring firefighters.
Both Espanola teams also brought home two awards.
The Espanola Halligoons (Ryan Kingyens, Tom Legree and Jason Bednarski) took home first place for best overall average team and first place for the SCBA confidence course.
They also won third place in the search and rescue competition.
Espanola’s second team, The Backdraft Bandits (Jamie Ames, Emily Laderoute, Chris Murphy and Laura Drektraan), also made a good showing at the competition.
