
By Rosalind Russell – The Ontario Provincial Police released the second edition of its report on missing and unsolved murdered Indigenous people within OPP jurisdiction on Red Dress Day, yesterday.
Officials say the OPP began proactively reviewing all unsolved homicide and missing persons investigations in its jurisdiction where the victim was identified as Indigenous.
The first edition was released in 2015 with this new edition offering insight into 65 investigations between January 1, 1956, and December 31, 2024.
The OPP 59 investigations met all necessary criteria for inclusion, adding of those, 14 are missing Indigenous women and girls, nine are unsolved death investigations, and eight are homicides.
The rest involves 39 missing Indigenous men and boys, six unsolved death, five homicide deaths and one suspicious death investigation.
The searches continue and anyone with information is asked to call police.
