Possible settlement reached in lawsuit following Algo Mall collapse

By Rosalind Russell – It has been nearly 15 years since the Algo Mall collapse in Elliot Lake, and there could soon be a court resolution.

According to a release from the firm, Roy O’Connor LLP, of Toronto, a proposed $10 million settlement will be heard in the courts next month.

The settlement follows a class action lawsuit by around 300 plaintiffs following the collapse of the mall back on June 23rd, 2012, where two women, 37-year-old Lucie Aylwin and 74-year-old Doloris Perizzolo, lost their lives, with dozens of others injured.

$2.5 million would be set aside for legal and administrative fees and related costs.

The rest would be distributed among the claimants, with each claim being independently reviewed if the court accepts the resolution.

The court will hear the proposal on April 10th.
