By Rosalind Russell – Sudbury’s post-secondary institutions are pleased to see the Ontario government invest billions to build long-term sustainability in the sector.
The Ontario government has announced it will be investing $6.4 billion over four years to support the postsecondary sector’s long-term success and sustainability including Sudbury.
According to the release, the money will fund 70,000 more in-demand seats across Ontario and put in place an updated tuition framework.
Formed earlier in 2026, the Sudbury Partnership for Higher Education represents Cambrian College, College Boreal, Laurentian University and NOSM University as a global destination for higher learning, research, and innovation.
This additional funding will help enable public colleges, such as Cambrian, to continue to produce the skilled workers across all sectors that our economy urgently needs, now and in the future, says Kristine Morrissey, the president of Cambrian College.
College Boreal President, Daniel Giroux and Dr. Lynn Wells, President & Vice-Chancellor, Laurentian University both concur adding the investment demonstrates the essential role post-secondary institutions in training a skilled workforce.
NOSM University commends the Government of Ontario for its commitment to strengthening the long-term sustainability of the postsecondary sector and for recognizing the critical role health professions education and northern institutions play in meeting Ontario’s growing workforce and health-care needs, adds Dr. Michael Green, President, Vice-Chancellor, Dean and CEO, NOSM University.
