By Rosalind Russell – The Municipality of Central Manitoulin has been able to do some vital repairs to the J.H. Burt Memorial Arena in Mindemoya, thanks to funding from the province and local committee.
Algoma-Manitoulin MPP Bill Rosenberg was on Manitoulin Island earlier this week to tour the arena where most of the work has been completed.
The Province of Ontario and the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation contributed $157,219 and the Mindemoya Arena Repair Committee donated $23,362 toward essential upgrades to the arena.
The funding supported the reconstruction and structural repair of the arena’s west wall, the removal and reinstallation of the low-e ceiling, the replacement of a refrigeration plant valve, and required engineering work.
The ice is now in and the local municipality is now looking towards the upcoming busy winter season.
