By Rosalind Russell – Physician shortages have led to a North Shore hospital having to close its emergency department for the weekend.
Communications officer, Melanie Kubatlija, says that after exhausting all available options at this time, the Emergency Department at the Thessalon Site of the North Shore Health Network (NSHN) will be temporarily closing due to a shortage of doctors.
She says the department is closed today, starting at eight pm and will reopen after eight pm this Sunday evening.
She adds that the North Shore Health Network continues to investigate all possible options to provide safe access to care.
She says efforts to find coverage are ongoing, and the network will update the community as soon as possible.
