Over 250 elementary students from Grades 3 to 8 in Rainbow Schools will hit the trails for a cross-country skiing race on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Walden Cross Country.

“This is an exciting event for students,” says Stefan Skogberg, Walden Public School teacher and race co-organizer. “They work diligently to prepare for the annual loppets and appreciate the opportunity to showcase their athletic development.”

Starting at 10 am, students will compete in races by grade ranging from 2 km to 3 km in length. Each race will be a mass start. The final race will take place at 12:15 pm.

The event will culminate with an awards ceremony at 1 pm outside the ski chalet.

“The awards ceremony is a tangible way to recognize participation and growth while boosting student motivation and confidence,” says Carol Mourre, race co-organizer and teacher from MacLeod Public School. “Medals will be given by grade level to the top three skiers in each race. Parents and guardians are most welcome to attend.”
