By Lina Vermeer – On April 29, Levi Vermeer and Jason Nadeau, two Espanola High School (EHS) alumni, won the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) National Men’s Volleyball championship!

Levi Vermeer and Jason Nadeau—currently stationed at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Petawawa—are members of the base’s men’s volleyball team, the Petawawa Stags. Jason is a starting left-side hitter, and Levi is a second-string right-side hitter for the team. Both played on the EHS varsity volleyball teams, and Jason also later played for Cambrian College and the Royal Military College.

Earlier this year, the Petawawa Stags team won the CAF Ontario Regional championship and qualified for Nationals. At Nationals, the Petawawa Stags battled back after losing two out of three round robin games to win all three playoff games, clinching their championship victory over other base teams from across the country.

Congratulations to Levi and Jason on you and your team’s great achievement!
