Wear the Green on Monday – and consider being a donor

By Rosalind Russell – Green Shirt Day is this coming Monday, so the public is asked to wear a green shirt, but more importantly, consider becoming a donor.

Green Shirt Day takes place every year on April 7 as a day to raise awareness of organ donation and register organ donors across Canada.

The initiative is championed by the parents of Logan Boulet, a young hockey player on the Humboldt Broncos who became an organ donor after the bus crash that took his and 15 other lives.

On April 6th, 2018, the Humboldt Broncos team was involved in the crash and of the 29 passengers, sixteen lost their lives, including Logan.

His parents, Bernadine and Toby, donated his organs so that six lives could live on. They did so because Logan told his parents he was registering as an organ donor and that he was inspired by his coach and mentor Ric Suggitt.

Ric passed on June 27th, 2017, and was also an organ donor and saved six lives.

On March 11th, at Lethbridge City Hall, Logan’s family unveil the official 2025 Green Shirt Day logo, featuring a silhouette of Logan, as they encourage communities nationwide to host their own events promoting organ and tissue donation awareness.
