Incorporated citizen’s committee taking legal action to prevent demolishing Dean Lake Bridge

By Rosalind Russell – A newly incorporated citizen’s committee is taking legal action to prevent the demolishment of the Dean Lake Bridge east of Iron Bridge.

Community Voices Committee Incorporated Chair, Mary Johnson says, the committee has filed an application for Judicial Review with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Divisional Court – Sudbury) in response to the Municipality of Huron Shores Council’s November 12th decision to permanently close and demolish the bridge.

She says the municipality has been served with the Notice of Application.

Johnson emphasizes it is disappointing that they have been left with no choice but to take legal action adding they had hoped that there would have been a collaborative partnership instead.

Johnson adds they strongly believe there is a bankable commitment to raise significant funds for bridge rehabilitation, so in order to pursue that vision, they had to make the legal move to prevent demolition of the structure.

Johnson says she has no timeline as to when the courts will hear their application, but updates will be provided moving forward.
