Manitoulin Island municipality denied funding until it finishes audits

By Rosalind Russell – The province is withholding funds to the Township of Tekhummah because it has not submitted its audits going back to 2023.

The municipality has hired Expertise for Municipalities, commonly known as E4M, to act as clerk for council meetings, and to get the work done, following the news that the clerk, Barb Griggs, is no longer employed with them.

According to the township, the 2023 audit has now been completed, and the 2024 audits are now underway.

E4M’s contract has been extended by another six months to act as the clerk for council meetings with the recent departure of the town clerk.

A town hall meeting is set for this week, February 10th, to update the public.

The audits are to be completed by early Spring so the municipality can move ahead on various projects.
