Repairs to Rogers Arena in Elliot Lake progressing quickly

By Rosalind Russell – The repairs on the Rogers Arena are starting to move at a faster pace and on schedule.

That from Chris Perry of Perry & Perry Architects, who shared the news with council at latest briefing, adding the expected opening date is Sept. 1.

He says the installation of the new cross and knee bracing on the outside walls has begun, which will reinforce the structure and its load-bearing walls, adding after that work is done, the temporary shoring towers will gradually be removed.

If all goes well, that could be completed by the end of April.

He adds the ice plant in the arena was inspected and tested recently, which revealed no major issues and the plant is expected to be ready for ice making beginning August 1.

Interior design work also continues with the demolition of the lobby and changerooms nearing completion with work and new plumbing installation also underway.

New walls and interior finishings will begin after the plumbing work has been completed. The new bleachers have also been ordered and are expected to arrive on site in late Spring.
