DRIVER ARRESTED FOR IMPAIRED AFTER FAILING TO MOVE OVER FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLE

(ESPANOLA, ON) – An individual is facing charges following a traffic stop in Baldwin Township.

On Sunday, April 5, 2026, at approximately 10:45 a.m., an officer from the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was concluding a traffic stop on Highway 17 when a vehicle failed to move into the other lane for an emergency vehicle, as required by law.

The officer subsequently conducted a traffic stop on that vehicle. As a result of further investigation, the driver was arrested for impaired operation. With assistance from the Greater Sudbury Police Service (GSPS), the driver was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE).

As a result, the driver, Brian FOWLER, 31-years-old of M’Chigeeng First Nation, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Fail to move into another lane for emergency vehicle

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Monday, May 4, 2026.
