(ESPANOLA, ON) – A driver is facing charges following a traffic complaint involving dangerous driving behaviour.
On Friday, March 27, 2026, the Manitoulin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received two traffic complaints reporting a vehicle swerving on Highway 17 near the Nairn-Hyman Township and narrowly avoiding a collision. Shortly after, officers located the vehicle on McKinnon Drive in Espanola. A traffic stop was conduct on Highway 6, and following further investigation, the driver was arrested for impaired operation.
Additionally, police seized an amount of suspected oxycodone pills with an estimated street value of $1,700.
The driver, Susan SLOMKE, 58-years-old from Silver Water was charged with:
- Operation while impaired
- Possession of a Schedule I substance – opioid
- Dangerous operation
- Unnecessary slow driving
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Monday, June 1, 2026.
