By Rosalind Russell – It was a full hall last night at the Espanola Legion for the All-Candidates Night with over 200 people in attendance.
It was also the first time a debate was livestreamed in Espanola with over 50 viewers.
The evening opened with moderator David Gallant announcing that councillor candidate, Dennis Lendrum, has withdrawn from the race, but no reason was given.
Another councillor hopeful, Maureen Van Alstine did not attend.
For two hours, candidates discussed various issues including taxation, infrastructure, economic diversification with concerns also being raised about the perceived lack of bylaw enforcement especially when it comes to property standards, the lower water levels on Lake Apsey this year and the lack of activities and opportunities for youth in Espanola.
The election is set for October 21.
