By Rosalind Russell – Black Creek Sno-Trails has become a popular tourism stop for people coming into Espanola.
Dennis Lendrum, who oversees the trails, says there are so many visitors, dozens a week, he is unable to keep count, and that’s a good thing.
Recently, residents of the Manitoulin Manor, as well as visitors from as far away as British Columbia, have taken in the trail.
Lendrum says there are some trails that are wheel-chair accessible and that has made them a popular stop on their travels.
The economic spin-off is also a great boon to Espanola since many of the visitors stay in the area overnight, eat out at local restaurants and shop locally.
The trails, located on Lake Penage Road, are open to the public throughout the daylight hours, but no dogs are allowed and visitors are asked to keep the grounds clean.
The Black Creek Sno-Shoe Trail pier/park is possible because of the generosity of Bioveld North, Espanola Game and Fish, Autism Acceptance and many volunteers.
