By Rosalind Russell – Canada Post is starting its preliminary work on revamping the agency across the country, and it could lead to possible closures of outlets.
According to the release, the first steps include two core initiatives: converting the remaining addresses that receive door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes and reviewing post offices individually.
Canada Post is converting approximately four million addresses that still receive door-to-door delivery to community mailboxes, which is expected to take about five years to complete.
Officials say while Canadians still value post offices, they are visiting them less frequently and making fewer in-store purchases causing a 30-per-cent drop in retail revenue since 2021, so reviews of individual post offices will be undertaken at every location.
The analysis will mean changes to the network where warranted, which could mean closures.
Canada Post says it will be updating communities throughout the process.
