Decoration Day held under sunny skies on Manitoulin Island

By Rosalind Russell – Thanks to several veterans, the crosses were back for the Decoration Day observance held yesterday at the Manitoulin Island Cenotaph.

According to long-time veteran Roy Eaton, the crosses represent the 129 Manitoulin veterans who died in WWI and WWII and were buried in foreign lands.

He adds there is also a special plaque to honour those who died in the Korean War.

Wreaths were also laid at the Seamen’s Memorial, the Women’s Memorial and the Youth Memorial.

Following the laying of wreaths, a social gathering was held for the dozens of people who attended.
