By Rosalind Russell – Holy Trinity United Church in Elliot Lake disbanded earlier this fall and has donated the money made from the sale of the property to two local organizations.
Trustees presented the two large donations earlier this week: $56,163.41 to the St. Joseph’s Hospital Foundation and $ 35,102.13 to the Elliot Lake Emergency Foodbank.
Church trustees Russell Foy, Nancy Jo Wannan and Dean Reile made the donations to the two community organizations.
Reverend Melody Duncason-Hales, who is a regional supervisor for the church, oversaw the process which also includes donations to other United Churches and their affiliates, Camp McDougall, St. Andrew’s in Blind River, and St. Andrew’s in Massey.
The church property has been purchased by the city and the municipality is in the process of finalizing an operational plan with details to be released early in 2024.
